All I wanted was a little bit of fresh air.
I don’t usually celebrate my birthday, not since I was a kid. My plans this year were to shutter myself inside my cabin, blaze up, and paint whatever came to mind, but my friend talked me into going dancing for the night.
The next thing I know, I step into the middle of some kind of sting operation and I’m being kissed in the corner by a stranger. A mammoth of a man with brawny arms, the darkest of eyes, and an ego to match the size of his shoulders.
Now, Special Agent in Charge Rhys Abbot says he’s been assigned to keep me safe while boxing me in with rules he says will protect me.

The next break in my case was unfolding right in front of me. Until she walked outside.
The beautiful blond with legs for days stepped around that corner just in time to be a witness to a crime - and turn my world on its end. I had to grab her when the danger turned on her and did the only thing I could think of to hide her; I pushed her into a corner and pretended to make out with her to block her from sight.
Now, I’m assigned to keep Ms. Harlow safe, but she challenges me at every turn like a spoiled child with a smile on her face.
Someone needs to put her in her place.
